As we prepare for the Southern Delaware Heart Walk, i.g. Burton Auto Group is sharing heart-healthy tips to help inspire better habits and raise awareness for cardiovascular wellness. Supporting the American Heart Association means supporting healthier communities — and we invite you to walk with us by joining the i.g. Stress is a part of life — but when it becomes chronic, it can take a serious toll on your heart health. Elevated stress hormones like cortisol can increase blood pressure, cholesterol, and inflammation. The good news? You can train your body and mind to handle stress in healthier ways.

Take Time to Breathe

Deep breathing exercises calm your nervous system and lower your heart rate. Try inhaling slowly for four counts, holding for four, and exhaling for four. Just a few minutes of mindful breathing can reduce tension almost immediately.

Get Moving

Physical activity is a natural stress reliever. Whether it’s walking, yoga, or cycling, exercise releases endorphins that help you relax and boost your mood.

Stay Connected

Talking with friends, family, or coworkers can help you process stress and feel supported. Social connections are linked to better heart health and overall well-being.

Prioritize Rest

Quality sleep gives your body time to recover and helps regulate stress hormones. Aim for seven to nine hours each night.

A calm mind supports a healthy heart. By taking time to manage stress each day, you’re not only improving your emotional balance — you’re protecting your most vital organ.
